<description>Here's a comment I received via email from a British student reading Arabic at Oxford.

"V. well written article. I really enjoyed it. Your description of Sderot
was particularly evocative; I was thinking just yesterday about what a
poor, crap town it is.

I think you give the Israel's a pretty easy ride in it though, to be
honest - no mention of occupation, poverty or settlements. Nor any
mention of the fact that the enormous sense of fear in Israel is, to
some extent, unfounded.

They do, after all, have one of the most powerful militaries in the world, and the backing of the US. And I'd say that a much of the reasonable fear Israel's feel (esp. from Syria and Lebanon) can be linked to their foreign policy and their treatment of the Palestinians, which is such a huge rallying point for the Arab
states. But perhaps that is all a bit unfair.

You do an excellent job of conveying the mindset of the Israeli people - I think I'm just coming at
the whole situation from quite a critical angle."</description>
